Did it all on his own, awesome, he must have been going for a nice bonus!

The 21 year old ran 1.41.01 beating his week old mark of 1.41.09.

The previous best of 1:41.11, set by Kenyan Wilson Kipketer's had stood since 1997.

You cant comment on 800m racing without going back to the man who revolutionised the event, seb coe, who set the previous world mark of 1.41.73 back in 1981. He's still the third fastest man ever over the distance.

And we wont talk about Jarmila Kratochvílová's women's world mark which dates from the good old days of the iron curtain.

Excellent point, Kipketer's record latest 13 years, Seb Coe's 16 years.

Coe was so unlucky never to win Olympic gold at 800m but amazingly did so back to back in the 1500m. Phenomenally, when beating Steve Cram in LA in '84 to win his second gold, he finished the last 100m in 12.7 seconds.
